August Lush

I have always been a sun/pool junkie. My ideal day is to lay by the pool with tanning oil and soak up the sun with my Sonic drink. I have olive toned skin, and I tan very quickly. My dad is the same way. My mom on the other hand, didn't inherit the best skin in the world. She has had quite a few skin cancers removed, and needs to go to the dermatologist more often. She grew up with a pool and would use tanning beds, but now she has to be so protective of her skin.

In college, I worked the 3-midnight shift at Vivint for the sole purpose of being able to go to the pool in the morning. I would wake up at 9am and take my breakfast down to the pool. I would stay at the pool until 2pm. This happened every day, unless I didn't work and then I would stay until 4 or 5. I was so tan. My skin started having a reaction to how much sun I was getting though, and I was getting weird blisters on my back and the inside of my arms were getting spotty. I knew that I needed to calm down my sun exposure. Since then, I've been more careful about wearing sunscreen and hats when I'm outside. My makeup has 30 SPF in it, and I put on a SPF30 sunscreen lotion on my face prior to putting on my makeup just to stay safe. I haven't had a tanning membership in 3 years, and I even have a tanning bed in my basement that hasn't even been touched (it's my in-laws, but they're in the process of moving/building so it's being stored in our basement).

Now here I am-22 years old. I am was the palest (is that a word?) I have ever been, and I honestly was not okay with it! I kept telling myself that I'll just use the tanning bed, and worry about the consequences later. I mean hello! it's February, you're going to be pale in the doom and gloom of winter, but I just needed some vitamin D-or at least some sort of color on my skin so I don't scare away the 3 year olds that we teach at church. Thankfully I found August Lush on Instagram! And now I feel like I owe them my first born child because I LOVE their spray tan, and I feel so much better with color on my skin! I used the dancing with the stars performance tan and their mitt that you can find HERE. Prior to using my spray tan, I watched their video HERE, and I made sure to read the directions that were in the box they shipped. I put a towel down on my bathroom floor that I didn't care about, and I made sure to spray each area one at a time and then rub in the solutions evenly. I did this once over, and made sure everything looked okay. Then, I used my blow dryer to set the solution better so I wouldn't get it all over my bed sheets, and then I slept in baggy clothes that night. The next morning I got up and took a shower (without soap), and TADA! I was SO happy with the color! It's definitely not orange, and it's such a nice subtle tan that I feel like it's summer again. I have always been nervous to try spray tanning because I've heard, and seen, horror stories. Since my mom has had skin cancer, I have made a promise to myself that I would take better care of my skin, even if it means less time in the sun. Thankfully, I love August Lush and their spray tan because it is a healthier alternative for your skin, and I can still have that summer tan that I've always loved.

You can find August Lush on Instagram and learn more about their skin cancer stories HERE. They also post discount codes that you do not want to miss out on!

  1. I LOVE, I repeat LOVE, being out in the sun in the summer, but definitely slather myself in sunscreen. I've pretty much come to terms with being pale all winter long. I do tan before a beach vacation, but that is just so I don't burn and cause my skin to be even more damaged. Thanks for the product recommendation and I'll definitely check it out. You have great color from this!
